...Just a few pics...

...actually, I have jumped back on eBay (pray for my moderation in purchasing, please... :-]  ) - and found a few cool items - probably my fave of which is the following picture, of Ginger and Fred in later days...I just slap LUV this pic, y'all!
...I think if anyone had 'reservations' that these two didn't get along, this pic should quash that notion in short order.

Well, It's been a few, y'all...not sure why, guess I have been a bit busier than I thought... but I am raring to jump back into it here, and should have the next review up in a few days...I already have the 'bones' to it set up... it does take a few days to do the review, do 'caps', and sort out everything for the final post... not that I'm complaining or anything - it's really a perfect way to get 'max info' from each movie, and hopefully become that much closer to the title, 'Supreme-super-duper-grand-poo-bah-uber-Gingerologist' (yeah, that's gonna be tough to get on one of those little trophy nameplates).

Speaking of 'uber-G-ologists', here's hoping we get a few to attend the Ginger Century Exhibition in Boston on 10/24 and 10/25 (yeah, that's a huge sigh of despair emanating from the Hu-ster, knowing the impossibility of his attendance chances...)  Well, here's a link to it again, in case you missed it:

Ginger Rogers Century Exhibition - Boston 10-24 and 25

And, lastly, hope all of you are well out there! Hope to hear from y'all... jump on the replies for this post...we'll yak about whatever!

And, a sincere and heartfelt thanks to all who follow!

KIG!

  3. Betsy: Good to hear from you! It IS pretty good that there a few more Gingery events taking place this year... I was quite bummed out when I figured out that no special events were taking place in Independence on 7/16... but it was pretty dang cool, anyway!
I just wish one of these shindigs would get a bit closer to me, such as Atlanta, Nashville, or even New Orleans... here's hopin'!
Hope you are doing well, Betsy... say hey to Sasha for me! :-)

F&GM: Money, Time and Location all conspire to shoot down any chance of Huey's attendance...would like to see ONE G-ologist make it there, tho... but hopefully it will be well attended, and some video will surface of the event.

    KIG, y'all!

  4. Hiya Huey,

I love that picture, too. It looks like Ginger is planting a kiss on Fred's cheek. In reality I think she's whispering in his ear, "I'm shedding feathers on your tuxedo." :)
    [Those are feathers, aren't they?]

I expect the Boston exhibition will be really neat. I would love to see Ginger's Oscar. Actually I'm a bit more greedy than that. I want to hold it, see how heavy it is, see what it's made of, and bask in the thought of how very, very happy and grateful Ginger was to win it.

Also on the subject of Ginger, Return recently sent me a copy of Ginger's 45 rpm recording of Alice and Wonderland. He had found it on the internet and also extracted the video of the record playing on YouTube....

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gm-SQX4CPL4

I hadn't come across it there. I LOVE Ginger's Alice voice. If you haven't heard the recording, you should take a listen...and your mother, too.

I haven't been around much...computer has been down since mid-July, I've borrowed the laptop I'm using, and I've been away more than at home...spending lots of time with Tommy. I have to go back and read your review of Professional Sweetheart. I got a big kick out of that movie, and it definitely would be #1 on my list at this point in the reviews.

I hope all is well in the Huey household.

  5. Hey Lady F!!!

Great to hear from ya! Glad to hear you are being able to spend some quality time with your 'grand'...

It's kinda funny that Ginger DOES have on feathers...well, maybe those are 'faux', and more 'attached' than the ones in '35...

Holding Ginger's Oscar...if THAT'S not a G-ologist's 'Bucket List' item, I don't know what is...BTW, who owns that now? Guess I should know that one...

I really dig the Alice recording...I have two copies of it, one on 78 (which I honestly don't have a player for) and the other on 45... but as to the 'electronic file', I'm pretty sure Lauren hooked me up with that... BTW, where IS BeeJe? Hopefully wrapping up a college degree... last I heard she was at a 'crossroads' as to her major...

But Ginger is really great on it, along with Mel Blanc's characters... it's been a few since I've listened to it, but doesn't the hare sound like elmer fudd? That's a bit ironic...I've always seen the 'multi-disc' radio shows featuring Ginger on eBay...obviously some dude makes them, but if they are fair, it would be GREAT!!! I have the 'Kitty Foyle' recording...honestly haven't listened to it, for some unfathomable reason...

Hope your computer issues are resolved...I am on the precipice of buying a new one...most likely one of those 'all-in-one' jobbers with the honkin screen... and then might get hooked back with Netflix on the streaming deal... but I'm a bit worried about losing all my Ginger files...I've backed them up, but would be hard to 'reorganize'...

Thanks again for the kind words, Barbara... we are all well, and hope y'all are doing the same!

  6. I was blessed to be able to attend the opening of the "Ginger Rogers Century" archive and the show in Boston on Oct. 24th. and wanted to tell you all about it:

The archive is chock-full of moving correspondence between Ginger and the many people who loved her, including her mother and her friends such as Lucille Ball and Jimmy Stewart. It also features lots of photographs, renderings of her artwork, and items like her Oscar, her Kennedy Center Honor medallion and ribbon (which I'm grateful I got to see her receive in 1992), and even one of her old tennis rackets! Roberta Olden, Ginger's longtime assistant, selected items with much loving care for Boston University to display.
Angela Lansbury spoke poignantly about how Ginger and Lew Ayres (a neighbor of hers in Brentwood for many years) had a great love for each other that endured in friendship despite the tragedy of their marriage ending. I SO wish that those two had gotten back together!!! The archive included a letter and telegram from Lew to Ginger, and reading those, it was evident how much he loved her. I think he was a great man, just as Ginger was a great lady, despite the mistakes they made -- and in the end, love still prevailed.
It was awesome to hear a song that Ginger composed herself in 1936 (the year they separated) in the show. The song was called "I Don't Understand" (a love song, that was probably referring to Lew). Jazz singer Karen Oberlin did a pitch-perfect job of performing the many songs that Ginger made famous from composers like Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, and Jerome Kern.
The archive will stay on display for several months at Boston U., I was told, so if any of you are in Boston, hope you can check it out!
