In Rememberance...

...of Ginger, who left this world into the Great Beyond fifteen years ago, on April 25, 1995... always a sad day, but one should just think of all the great moments she gave us to remember her by, and how cool it is there are so many that were documented and still available... I know she is just dancing away somewhere out there, dressed to the nines and radiant as ever... something tells me that although she is at peace, she is probably not resting, if I know her! She is most likely working out new routines with Fred! :-]

I remember I was at my future wife's apartment... I was under the weather, and instead of going out to eat and whatever, we just stayed there and watched the news, when they talked about VKM's death... I actually only knew a small amount about Ginger at the time, but enough to know she was a pretty cool lady, and that I thought she was great in the few movies I saw her in up until then... guess my Ginger interest has increased a bit since then!

Well, sorry about another sad post, y'all; also no pics again (just couldn't come up with one for this situation, really) but this post is obviously mandatory, although sad...

I am cooking up some things to post soon, so have patience, fellow G-ologists! Hope everyone made makes it through the big storm rolling through the Eastern U.S.

Until Then - Keep It Gingery...

...the 'Hair Poll' results...

...not too surprising that 'Tight Spot' was the hands-down winner (or loser, I suppose) in the poll... It is a shame, since she really does quite well in the movie, and looks great otherwise (as usual)... so don't let the 'do repel you from checking out the movie.

Well, I have a few things going on which may limit my posting the next week or so... First, as some may know, I had a root canal done about two weeks ago now... seemed to be ok, but a little over a week ago, that side of my face went numb - went back and they took out another piece of 'root', thought that would get it back to normal, but 5 days later, still numb... so I'm going to have to sort it out with the dentist, and hopefully not have to go to another 'specialist'...

But, the 'big' deal has transpired just today, as I had to take my dad to the ER - he was generally congested, but after doing a CATscan, it looks like he may have some cancer in his lymph nodes... he is 81, and still lives alone... so looks like some form of assisted living or even hospice is in his immediate future... so as his 'overseer', my wife and I will have to take care of the arrangements for him and everything...

Well, sorry this post is not more 'Gingery', but just letting y'all know what is happening... hopefully these issues will be resolved soon, and I can get back to posting some stuff... have some things in mind, so please stay tuned!

Thanks,
VKMfan

...a brief reminder...

...'Chance at Heaven' will be on TCM tomorrow MORNING, at 9 AM Eastern... Please check your local listings... hope you get to 'nab' it if you missed it during GingerMarch... It's a pretty good one, but Ginger's role is a bit 'tame'... still GINGER, tho, so...an essential, right? :-]

The 'Hollywood' sign... and Ginger's connection to it...

Y'all have probably heard all about this, but the iconic 'Hollywood' sign is in danger of being removed in favor of a mountaintop resort... now why they can't leave the sign where it is, is beyond me...wouldn't this be pretty much a drawing point? "Hey, I stayed at the Blah Blah Hotel..." "Where?" "You know, the one by the 'Hollywood' sign!"
Anyway, Ginger had a 'history' with the land where the sign is (Cahuenga Peak)... it involves Howard Hughes (BTW...my middle name is Hughes, hence the moniker 'Huey') ...ol' Howie bought the land, and was going to build Ginger a mansion there...but legal issues arose, and of course Ginger figured out Howie was a bit too 'eccentric' (what they call crazy millionares), so she left him.

After checking out info, I ran across this cool blog, the author of which is apparently a BIG proponent of 'Saving the Sign'... Here is a post link describing in greater detail the Ginger / Howard angle to this story:

http://underthehollywoodsign.wordpress.com/2009/06/16/howard-hughes-ginger-rogers-and-the-property-on-cahuenga-peak/

And, the most recent post, noting that the 'deadline' for gathering $$$ for the sign property has been extended to April 30th, 2010:

Hopefully, a few Big Players will pony up and save it - I mean, $1 mill? That's not much in Hollywood, is it? It would be a shame to see this destroyed... I haven't been there, but obviously recognize the sign as iconic. Here's hoping it remains...

...and now for something completely different...

...with major apologies to the Python Brothers...

BTW, hope y'all got to see the George Stevens bio if you wanted to...sorry for the lack of 'reminder'...long story short, I went into work Monday with a swollen face, decided to go to the dentist for x-rays, had an infected molar, had a root canal performed (note this was STILL Monday...no doubt a 'Garfield Monday'...) - and of course afterwards, have been out of commission for a few days... just now feeling a bit closer to 'normal'...

But, as for the George Stevens deal - have not seen it (have it taped, tho), but is basically a documentary of his career... probably more than a few references to Ginger in there, as he was quite smitten with her... sounds familiar, no? :-P

Anyway, have been kicking around a few ideas here and there for a 'post GingerMarch post'... and thought, "hey, how about a poll?" Y'all seem to enjoy those, so...
Here goes... this poll is a MAJOR departure for me, since it...well, basically is a 'non-positive' poll concerning Ginger... pretty shocking stuff, eh?
Over the last few weeks, I have heard many ramblings (from myself included) on various blogs on the topic of Ginger's hairstyles in various movies...most are quite favorable, as to be expected; but there are a few which were determined to be not the best 'look' for VKM... so I have noted a few (actually, three) of the movies where the 'predominant' hair style Ginger dons throughout the film is...really not up to 'Ginger Standards'... I have added pictures of these three styles from the three movies (in chronological order), as listed below...no comment from me on any of the three, lest I sway you... all of the movies are great, tho...

................................"Roxie Hart"

.........................."Lady In The Dark"

.................................."Tight Spot"

OK - I have placed the poll widgit up on the top right of the blog... can only vote for one...hey, there's only three choices, right? Again, Ginger's hair is awesome, no matter what...I think it is pretty much flawless when done up the right way... but these styles... just didn't work, for the most part... although there IS one of the three above I really think is not too bad... won't say which until after the proceedings...

Vote if you so desire...and tell your friends!

Keep It Gingery!

...Thus Endeth GingerMarch...

...A big SHOUT-OUT to all the folks in the Blogosphere who contributed great info, pics, etc., regarding this festive and momentous occassion! You are to be commended...whatever THAT entails!
A sincere thanks also to the good folks at TCM (I figure SOMEBODY over there cruises the blogs...), for allowing us all access to over half of Ginger's film career, as well as the cool 'TCM overviews' of her career... AWESOME!!!
Hope everyone was able to record the movies they were looking for... as far as I know, save for the 'Once Upon a Honeymoon' 'hiccup' (which didn't materialize...STILL think it may have been an 'April Fool's' deal - Ginger would have been proud!), all the films aired without any problems.
----
Well, as aforementioned, G-ology will resume 'regularly unscheduled ramblings' at this point henceforth... we have quite a few things on the 'drawing board', which will hopefully materialize soon... any suggestions are truly welcome and encouraged! We want 'Gingerology' to be the best source for all things VKM!
"Thanks for your patronage!" ...and, Have a great weekend, y'all!
